The South Ayrshire Befriending Project (SABP) encourages short-term service provision and seeks to deliver a relevant, needs-led service. SABP provides supportive friendships for socially isolated and excluded young people aged between 8 - 18 years in South Ayrshire. Referrals can be made by anyone involved with the young person whether it be social worker, teacher or family member. SABP recruits and trains adult volunteers (aged 18+) from the South Ayrshire region to befriend young people. SABP matches volunteer befrienders with young people who have been affected by a lack of integration with their peers and in the community, however YOUNG PERSON MUST WANT TO HAVE A BEFRIENDER.
The young person must meet the following criteria:
Aged between 8 - 18
Live in South Ayrshire region
Limited or no adult support to access social and recreational activities
Limited or no peer interaction or community involvement
In terms of criteria for those young people with additional support needs, the individual will be socially isolated and unable
to utilise recreational facilities independently due to one or more of the following:
Learning disability
Physical disability
Sensory impairment
Medical Condition
The young person must meet the following criteria:
Be aged 8 - 18
Live in the South Ayrshire region
Limited or no adult support to access social and recreational activities
Limited or no peer interaction or community involvement
In addition to this, the young person must meet one or more of the following criteria:
Challenging behaviour, either at school, home or in the community
Emotionally vulnerable.
Significant social difficulties.
